| BREAKING: Barcelona and Real Madrid will receive €1B if the ruling on the Super League goes in their favour on 21st December. They're the only two founding clubs. If this happens, Barça's entire financial crisis will get wiped out at ONCE. [@ffpolo]
Hvordan kan det være ?
Bitter rivals FC Barcelona and Real Madrid will receive $1.09 billion (€1 billion) each if the European Super League goes ahead, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The breakaway competition seen as a threat to the Champions League and domestic championships originally tried to get off the ground in early 2021.
After fans of the six English clubs involved voiced opposition, however, causing a series of withdrawals, the two Spanish giants plus Juventus were the only outfits left standing.
Juventus also pulled out earlier this year, reportedly fearing that they wouldn't be allowed to participate in European competitions this term amid pressure from continental football governing body UEFA
Despite fallings out over the unfolding 'Caso Negreira', the two eternal enemies of El Clasico remain allies in the European Super League, which some believe a necessary evil for them to keep up with the likes of state-backed behemoths such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
Together next Thursday, they await to hear a final European Court of Justice verdict when it will ultimately be decided whether UEFA enjoys an illegal monopoly on the organization and commercialization of elite European football competitions.
UEFA continues to be convinced that it will receive a positive outcome in its favour while the other side of the fence feels "fully confident that the law is on its side".
The European Super League going ahead appears to be in the best interests of Barca, who were plunged into debts exceeding $1 billion at the turn of the decade thanks to overpaying on failed signings such as Philippe Coutinho and Antoine Griezmann coupled with a lack of income during the pandemic.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Super League "may be the short-term solution to the financial problems of FC Barcelona and Real Madrid" given that they will receive a much-needed $1.089 billion (€1 billion) cash injection each if and when it finally gets underway.
This is because they would be founding members of the competition, which will not go unrecognized by investors set to stump up a reported $16.3 billion (€15 billion) plus A22 Sports Management which is the company behind its inception.
Spoke to LaLiga president Javier Tebas ahead of a big CJEU European Super League ruling on December 21. “Regarding the decision, one way or another [Real Madrid president] Florentino Perez always wins, and he started working on this project in 2003. The result might be very good for him. For me, depending on the verdict, it may not be a very good result, but it will always be fine for Mr. Perez because he never loses. He will probably make a positive statement regardless of what the ruling says...
“As a lawyer, I think the sentence will be long. Yet regardless of the result, and if it’s not 100 percent beneficial for Mr. Perez, he will find something favourable in the long ruling. But my own view on the European Super League hasn’t changed. Before I have said it was created in a bar on the back of a napkin at four in the morning… now I think maybe they did it at six in the morning!”
